Guardo

Sunday, January 28th, 2007

If one listens to Atty. Paul Auminal, you’ll get a sense of how the Cuenco camp had been monitoring the activities of the Guardo camp.

He knows the details of the recent Guardo media offensive. He knows who went to the different stations to negotiate the use of the press releases in exchange for placement of the Arthro ads as well as the individual budgets for each radio anchor.

It seems the Cuenco camp is not taking things to chance.

Mandaue

Just my offhand observation of the latest development in Mandaue City … the Jonas Cortes alliance with Glen Bercede is weak. It came about because Bercede wanted to run for vice mayor but cannot if Jonas remains within the OUano camp. This alliance came about as an effort to push Jonas to run for mayor and BErcede as vice.

But what will prevent Bercede from going back to the Ouano camp to run as Jonkie Ouano’s vice mayoralty candidate?

One factor that will push Bercede back to Ouano is the Baludong Cortes candidacy. Baludong wants to become vice mayor. I don’t think Jonas will junk Baludong in favor of Bercede. It’s more of the other way around.

Sinulog and Politics

In my Sun.Star Cebu column, I wrote about Mayor JV Ejercito’s possible presence at the Cebu City Sports Complex grandstand and Mayor Tomas Osmeña’s welcome.

On the surface, it shows Tom’s hospitality. But scratch the surface and we will see an Osmeña distancing himself from the administration.

What happened? Is it a show of displeasure for having been sidelined during the ASEAN Summit?

Tomas wanted to handle the gala dinner and the entertainment of journalists.

However, the gala went to Lupita Kashiwahara while the International Media Center (IMC), which was coordinating the activities of the media, was firmly in control of Malacañang boys.

So Tomas was left with holding a fellowship dinner for journalists which was attended by only a handful.

Sun.Star’s fellowship organized at the last moment was better attended despite the lack of time for distributing the invites.
