LAmp Post Scam

Sunday, March 25th, 2007

Mayor Tomas Osmeña has succeeded in putting the blame on everybody else aside from himself for the scandalous lamp post anomaly.

On the chopping block are Mayor Teddy Ouano. Mayor Boy Radaza and officials of DPWH 7. People are now asking how about the officials who called the shots during the ASEAN Summit preparations?

But no one is asking how about Tomas Osmeña?

How to Win an Election

Saturday, March 17th, 2007

I just bought this book "How to Win an Election- Lessons from the Experts," a project edited by Chay Florentino Hofileña and funded by the Kondrad Adenauer Stiftung, and so excited in reading it when Doris, in her characteristic putdowns, quipped: "Oh? Does it include how to cheat? How can you win?" or something to this effect.

After browsing through the book though, I was impressed by the detailed discussions of tips for idealistic politicos who want to slaughter dinosaurs.

But Doris was right. It does not have a detailed guide on how to handle the goons of somebody like Junie Martinez, for instance. In 2001, John-JOhn Osmeña hired former NPA rebels to organize communities in Junnie’s fourth district but was stopped by an unfortunate encounter that saw the death of one of them.

Perhaps, Chay would want to look into that interesting campaign when the same group of former rebels led by Rolly Kintanar himself succeeded in thwarting the goons of then Rep. Sol Abines in Cebu’s second district way back in 1998 in favor of Rolly’s uncle Sim Kintanar.

Philippine elections

Tuesday, March 13th, 2007

Elections in the Philippines are always described as a circus with candidates prancing around to catch the public’s attention and support. But is also crime and suspense. Look at the  possible arson in the burning of the Comelec building and persecution of Leftist partylist groups.

Kampi versus Lakas

Tuesday, March 6th, 2007

Reports from local dailies and the field point to the inevitability of a Kampi versus Lakas fight in Cebu province. The Genuine Opposition or GO is a non-entity in the provincial fight. It will be a reprise of the 2004 battle between pro-GMA forces. This time though, it will be a one-on-one battle royale between Gov. Gwen Garcia and former Cong. Junnie Martinez.

More on this in later blogs.
